![]() ![]() This will nicely supplant my previous DVD of the Joel Schumacher film with Gerard Butler. The musical was captured with several fixed and mobile cameras before a live audience (I understand it was simulcast to select theaters as well when it was actually performed last year.) The editing may be slightly too active for my taste, especially in the duets, but better than that did years ago with "Cats, IMO.) (At one point I noticed, "OMG, they broke the stage line." And then I thought, "OMG, they broke the stage line in an actual on-stage performance!" How weird is that?) The cameras aren't afraid to go for full close-ups, revealing more detail than one would ever see even sitting in the front row. The cast includes Ramin Karimloo as The Phantom and Sierra Boggess as Christine, who are perfect. Not a "cast in concert", but a full stage production, opulently produced, staged and costumed by Cameron Mackintosh (who produced the original London version). This DVD of the 25th anniversary performance was released in the US this week: ![]()
